Mexico YMCA Mid-Mo Marlins claim Small Team trophy, set records at Heartland Area West Regional Championships

The Mexico Area YMCA Mid-Mo Marlins swim team won the First Place Small Team Trophy at the Heartland Area Regional West Championships held March 3-5, 2017 at the Monett Area YMCA Ginny and Chris Fuldner Family Aquatic Center in Monett, MO. The team of 23 swimmers earned 1,820 points to beat out five other teams competing in the small team division.

Individual Results

Julia Goerne (5), swam in the 8 & under girls age group and swam her very best.

Trey Burle (7), received fourth place medals in the (9-10) 200 freestyle relay, and the 200 medley relay. He also received a ninth place ribbon in the (8 & under) 100 individual medley; tenth place ribbons in the 25 breaststroke, and the 25 backstroke; an eleventh place ribbon in the 25 butterfly; a twelfth place ribbon in the 50 freestyle; and thirteenth place ribbon in the 25 freestyle.

Ethan Freyer (8), received a third place medal in the (8 & under) 25 freestyle; fourth place medals in the (9-10) 200 freestyle relay, and the 200 medley relay; seventh place medals in the (8 & under) 100 individual medley and the 50 freestyle; and an eighth place medal in the 25 butterfly. He also received a ninth place ribbon in the 25 breaststroke; and a sixteenth place ribbon in the 25 backstroke.

Brixton Goerne (9), received a first place medal in the (9-10) butterfly; a third place medal in the 100 butterfly; fourth place medals in the 200 freestyle relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 100 freestyle; fifth place medals in the 50 backstroke, the 50 freestyle, and the 100 individual medley.

Abbigale Cloven (10), received sixth place medals in the (11-12) 200 freestyle relay, and the 200 medley relay.

Amber Mears (10), received sixth place medals in the (11-12) 200 freestyle relay, and the 200 medley relay.

Avin Hernandez (10), received fourth place medals in the (9-10) 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay; a sixth place medal in the 50 butterfly; and eighth place medals in the 50 breaststroke and the 100 breaststroke. He also received a ninth place ribbon in the 50 freestyle; a tenth place ribbon in the 50 backstroke; and an eleventh place ribbon in the 100 individual medley.

Victoria Fugaro (11), received sixth place medals in the (11-12) 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. She also received a ninth place ribbon in the (15-21) 400 freestyle relay; and tenth place ribbons in the 400 medley relay, and the (11-12) 100 butterfly.

Riley Thurman (12), received first place medals in the (11-12) 50 breaststroke, and the 50 freestyle; second place medals in the 50 backstroke, the 200 freestyle, and the 100 freestyle; a third place medal in the 100 breaststroke; fourth place medals in the 50 butterfly, and the (15-21) 400 freestyle relay; a fifth place medal in the the 200 freestyle relay; sixth place medals in the (15-21) 400 medley relay, and the 200 medley relay.

Krista Burle (12), received sixth place medals in the (11-12) 200 freestyle relay, and the 200 medley relay.

Drew Hibbs (13), received first place medals in the (15-21) 200 freestyle relay, the 400 medley relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 freestyle relay. He also received first place medals in the (13-14) 200 breaststroke, and the 100 breaststroke. He received a second place medal in the (13-14) 1650 freestyle (the mile); a third place medal in the 1000 freestyle; and fourth place medals in the 500 freestyle, the 50 freestyle, and the 200 individual medley.

Antonio Fugaro (13), received third place medals in the (13-14) 400 individual medley, and the 200 butterfly; fifth place medals in the 100 butterfly, and the 1650 freestyle (the mile), and sixth place medals in the 200 breaststroke, and the 1000 freestyle. He also received a ninth place ribbon in the 100 breaststroke.

Ryan Mears (13), received a sixth place medal in the (13-14) 100 backstroke; seventh place medals in the 200 freestyle, and the 1000 freestyle; and an eighth place medal in the 500 freestyle. He also received a tenth place ribbon in the 50 freestyle, and a twelfth place ribbon in the 100 breaststroke.

Dylan Mears (13), received a fourth place medal in the (13-14) 400 individual medley; a fifth place medal in the 100 backstroke; a sixth place medal in the 1650 freestyle (the mile); and a seventh place medal in the 200 breaststroke. He also received a ninth place ribbon in the 200 individual medley; an eleventh place ribbon in the 100 breaststroke; and a twelfth place ribbon in the 100 freestyle.

Matthew Huemann (14), received first place medals in the (13-14) 400 individual medley, the 200 freestyle, the 100 backstroke, the 200 individual medley, the 200 backstroke, the 100 freestyle, the (15-21) 200 freestyle relay, the 400 medley relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 freestyle relay. He also received a second place medal in the (13-14) 50 freestyle.

Ruthie Duncan (14), received a first place medal in the 13-14 200 backstroke; a second place medal in the 100 backstroke; third place medals in the 50 freestyle, and the 200 individual medley; a fourth place medal in the (15-21) 400 freestyle relay; fifth place medals in the 200 freestyle relay, and the 200 breaststroke; and sixth place medals in the (15-21) 400 medley relay, the 200 medley relay and the (13-14 100 breaststroke.

Cecilia Fugaro (14), received a third place medal in the (13-14) 1650 freestyle (the mile); a fifth place medal in the 1000 freestyle; and a sixth place medal in the 400 individual medley. She also received a ninth place ribbon in the (15-21) 400 freestyle relay; tenth place ribbons in the 400 medley relay, and the (13-14) 200 breaststroke; twelfth place ribbon in the 100 breaststroke; and fourteenth place ribbon in the 200 freestyle.

Aaliyah Jaramillo (14), received a third place medal in (13-14) 200 butterfly; a fifth place medal in the 1650 freestyle (the mile); a seventh place medal in the 100 butterfly. She also received a ninth place ribbon in the (15-21) 400 freestyle relay; tenth place ribbons in the (13-14) 500 freestyle, and the (15-21) 400 medley relay; and sixteenth place ribbon in the (13-14) 200 freestyle.

Claire Jones (16), received a fourth place medal in the (15-21) 200 butterfly; and a seventh place medal in the 400 individual medley. She also received a ninth place ribbon in the 15-21 400 freestyle relay; tenth place ribbons in the 100 butterfly, and the 400 medley relay; eleventh place ribbons in the 200 freestyle, and the 200 individual medley; a fourteenth place ribbon in the 100 backstroke; and a sixteenth place ribbon in the 100 freestyle.

Jake Bell (17), received first place medals in the (15-21) 500 freestyle, the 200 freestyle relay, the 400 medley relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 freestyle relay; the 200 breaststroke; the 100 butterfly; the 100 freestyle; and the 100 breaststroke. He also received second place medals in the 50 freestyle, and the 200 individual medley.

Austin Loyd (17), received first place medals in the (15-21) 200 freestyle relay, the 400 medley relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. He also received a fourth place medal in the 1000 freestyle; a fifth place medal in the 100 backstroke; sixth place medals, in the 500 freestyle, the 200 freestyle, and the 100 freestyle. He also received a ninth place ribbon in the 100 breaststroke; and tenth place ribbon in the 50 freestyle.

Morghan Rowe (17), received a fourth place medal in the (15-21) 400 freestyle relay; a fifth place medal in the 200 freestyle relay; six place medals in the 400 medley relay, and the 200 medley relay; and seventh place medals in the 200 individual medley, and the 200 backstroke. She also received a tenth place ribbon in the 200 breaststroke; and twelfth place ribbons in the 100 breaststroke, and the 50 freestyle.

Hannah Williams (17), received a fourth place medal in the (15-21) 400 freestyle relay; fifth place medal in the 200 freestyle relay; six place medals in the 400 medley relay, and the 200 medley relay. She also received ninth place ribbons in the 200 breaststroke, and the 200 backstroke; a tenth place ribbon in the 100 backstroke; a thirteenth place ribbon in the 100 breaststroke; a fifteenth place ribbon in the 100 freestyle; and a sixteenth place ribbon in the 50 freestyle.

Moving Ahead

Of the 23 Marlins swimmers, 19 qualified for competition at the Heartland Area Championship Swim Meet to be held March 17-19, 2017 at the Charles Fruit Aquatic Center in Edwardsville, Illinois. The following qualified in at least one event: T. Burle, Freyer, B. Goerne, Cloven, A. Mears, Hernandez, V. Fugaro, K. Burle, Thurman, Hibbs, A. Fugaro, Huemann, Duncan, C. Fugaro, Jaramillo, Bell, Loyd, Rowe, and Williams.

High Point Trophies

Three Marlins received high point trophies. Jake Bell received the high point trophy in the boys 15-21 age group. Matthew Huemann received the high point trophy in the boys 13-14 age group. And Riley Thurman won the second place high point trophy in the girls 11-12 age group.

Broken Records

Along the way to claiming the championship, the Marlins not only won ribbons, medals and trophies, they also broke (and set) a few Heartland Area swim records as well.

Jake Bell set five new records (15-21) 500-freestyle 5:08.80; 200-breaststroke 2:24.03; 100-butterfly 58:41; 100-breaststroke 1:03.13; and 100-freestyle 51:29.

Matthew Huemann set five new records (13-14) 400- individual medley 4:53.52; 200-freestyle 1:57.27; 100-backstroke 1:01.38; 200-individual medley 2:14.44; 100-freestyle 53:76.

Drew Hibbs set 2 new records (13-14) 200- breaststroke 2:30.65 and 100- breaststroke 1:07.46.

The (15-21) boys relay team (Bell, Loyd, Huemann, Hibbs) set four new records: 200-freestyle relay 1:39.11; 400-medley relay 4:12.36; 200-medley relay 1:49.14; and the 400-freestyle relay 3:39.60
