Photo & Video Policy
Mexico YMCA Mid-MO Marlins swim team (MEXY) promotes safe and common sense photography and video that protect the integrity and privacy of swimmers and their families. All video and photographs taken at MEXY must observe generally accepted standards of decency.
While the great majority of images are appropriate and are taken in good faith, it is a fact that images can be misused and children can be put at risk if common-sense procedures are not observed. This policy is to protect MEXY’s swimmers’ decency, privacy, and integrity.
MEXY PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO RULES
- Action shots should be a celebration of the sporting activity and not a sexualized image in a sporting context.
- Action shots should not be taken or retained where the photograph or video reveals a torn or displaced swimsuit.
- Photographs or video should not be taken from behind swimming blocks or exhibit a child climbing into or out of the swimming pool.
- Photographs or videos should never be taken in locker-rooms or bathrooms.
MEXY PHOTO AND VIDEO PUBLISHING
It is understood that coaches, employees, swim team parents, and swimmers of Mexico YMCA Mid-MO Marlins do regularly photograph team members at MEXY-hosted activities and at other team USA Swimming-related activities. These photos are often shared among team parents, swimmers, and coaches and may ultimately be used on bulletin boards, MEXY promotional materials, or team social media pages.
A parent or guardian of any MEXY Swimmer has the right to refuse and to opt out of having their child’s photos/videos taken, retained, and used by Mexico YMCA Mid-MO Marlins by signing the Photo/Video Opt-Out Form. The exercise of this right of refusal cannot be used as grounds for refusing entry into a swimming competition.
In the case of open meets and other competitions where the host club has an official photographer present, all parents attending should be made aware of this in the meet information.
